Ros said that with this project we do not intend to develop automatic driving systems (as it would be very difficult for insurance agencies and car companies to come to an agreement in the event of a crash), but advanced driving assistance systems.

DRIVSCO ‘learning vehicles’ alert their drivers to dangers

Scientists from six European countries have collaborated to develop a new computer system that enables vehicles to recognize their drivers’ normal behavior and therefore avoid accidents caused by unusual behavior. The DRIVSCO system detects the anomalies, often caused by inattention or poor visibility, and signals an alarm that warns drivers to beware early enough to give them time to react.

The researchers say DRIVSCO goes far beyond a computer vision system for driving assistance, like thermal imaging, as used in other similar concepts. This system relies on the car ‘learning’ a driver’s typical approach to a corner, curve, intersection or obstacle, regardless of their driving style (sporty or conservative) and applying that knowledge to every driving situation.

For instance, during night driving, if the vehicle detects a deviation in the driver’s normal behavior when approaching a curve, it interprets this being due to a lack of visibility (as the driver has a limited visibility from his low beam headlights, whereas the car’s night vision system is much more powerful and has a longer range). Therefore, the vehicle generates alarms to warn the driver of his ‘unusual behavior when approaching the curve’.

Accidents at night
The scientists responsible for the project’s findings state that 42 percent of fatal traffic accidents happen at night, according to the data of the European Car Council, “an extremely worrying figure if we consider that traffic drops about a 60 percent during night hours.” This is due, among other factors, to the reduced visibility during night driving.

The car also had a differential GPS incorporated (with several centimeters of precision), which gave accurate readings of wheel turns, braking, etc, so that the researchers could check in great detail the style of driving in every case, and the performance of the system. The first tests have offered promising results and proved the usefulness of the new concept.

La presentación del proyecto Granadaempleo en Baza reúne a empresarios y agentes sociales en torno al desarrollo sostenible de la comarca

Ante representantes de los empresarios de la comarca, técnicos, formadores, concejales y alcaldes de la zona, el vicepresidente 2º de la Diputación de Granada y delegado de Promoción Económica, Julio Bernardo, presentó esta mañana en Baza el proyecto Granadaempleo con el que, durante los dos próximos años, se invertirán esfuerzos y dinero para conseguir desarrollar la comarca y dinamizar todas sus posibilidades económicas. En este sentido, y durante el acto de inauguración del primer encuentro en el marco de este programa, el alcalde de la localidad, Pedro Fernández, aseguró que, con compromisos como éste, “nos estamos jugando el desarrollo de la comarca y el asentamiento de nuestra población”.

El proyecto Granadaempleo, financiado por el Fondo Social Europeo y desarrollado por el Área de Cultura, Juventud y Cooperación Local de la Diputación de Granada, implica a más de treinta asociaciones de la provincia y administraciones entre las que se encuentra la Junta de Andalucía, la Universidad de Granada y las cámaras de comercio provinciales, con las que se han diseñado 643 itinerarios de inserción laboral con un compromiso de empleo del 80% lo que creará más de 700 puestos de trabajo en toda la provincia.

Julio Bernardo, destacó en la presentación de este seminario la importancia de este proyecto en el que están implicados todos los agentes sociales que intervienen en un territorio, desde los dinamizadores culturales hasta los empresarios, sin olvidar a los responsables institucionales. “En los próximos dos años, desde la Diputación trabajaremos en esta comarca para sentar las bases de un desarrollo sostenible que nos permitan conocer y poner en valor las potencialidades de desarrollo de la zona y establecer un Pacto Territorial por el empleo”, señaló Bernardo.

Son, precisamente, los Pactos Territoriales por el empleo que pretenden firmarse en cada comarca de la provincia uno de los objetivos de este proyecto, un total de 14 acuerdos de carácter supramunicipal que contará con dos comisiones de trabajo, una política donde estarán representadas las instituciones, y otra técnica integrada por profesionales. Ambas evaluarán y diagnosticarán las necesidades de cada territorio, para posteriormente “consensuar las estrategias de actuaciones más convenientes en cada zona”, señaló el diputado.

En total Granadaempleo supondrá una inversión de nueve millones de euros en actuaciones que tendrán lugar entre 2009 y 2011.

Los técnicos del Instituto Andaluz de Geofísica han delimitado y acotado unos trescientos metros cuadrados de terreno en la zona en la que se supone que se encuentra la fosa común donde yace Federico García Lorca junto a otros fusilados de la Guerra Civil y donde se prevé trabajar hasta el próximo jueves.

Así lo ha explicado el vicepresidente de la Asociación para la Recuperación de la Memoria Histórica de Granada, Rafael Gil Bracero, que se ha desplazado hasta esa zona de Alfacar para conocer los trabajos que desarrollan cuatro investigadores dependientes de la Universidad de Granada (UGR).

Según Gil Bracero, las tareas, que comenzaron ayer y que podrían prolongarse hasta el próximo jueves, se centran en «peinar» con el uso de georradares una superficie aproximada de unos trescientos metros cuadrados, que han sido divididas en cuadrículas donde se supone que se encontrarían enterrados los cadáveres.

Aunque esta tecnología no permite la localización de restos óseos, sí detecta las áreas en las que se ha producido lo que los técnicos denominan «intervención antrópica», es decir que ha habido movimientos de terreno, con diferentes perfiles de sustrato y relieves, no necesariamente relacionadas con fenómenos naturales.

Contrato de confidencialidad
El entorno, que es además vigilado por personal de seguridad privada, será vallado en las próximas horas para garantizar el correcto desarrollo de los trabajos, ha explicado Gil Bracero.

Estos trabajos están siendo llevados a cabo por profesionales del Instituto Andaluz de Geofísica, cuyo director, Jesús Ibáñez, ha eludido pronunciarse sobre el desarrollo de los mismos, al explicarque mantienen un contrato de confidencialidad con la Junta de Andalucía, promotora de la actuación.

El inicio ayer de los trabajos preliminares a la próxima apertura de la fosa de Alfacar coincide con la publicación en el Boletín Oficial de la Junta de Andalucía (BOJA) de la resolución por la que se decretó la ampliación en diez días hábiles del plazo de alegaciones para la exhumación del enterramiento común.

Esta ampliación temporal se produjo después de que la familia Lorca solicitara la ampliación para examinar el expediente administrativo y concretar su pronunciamiento al respecto.

Petición de familiares
Por su parte, Manuel Fernández-Montesinos, sobrino de Federico García Lorca, ha explicado que la familia acaba de recibir la documentación que le requirió a la Junta y que aún no han decidido cuándo se reunirán para tomar una decisión.

No obstante, ha añadido, van «a apurar» los plazos establecidos, que concluyen el próximo día 1 de octubre, y una vez que tomen una decisión al respecto, la harán pública.

La intervención de la Junta en el proceso se inició a raíz de la petición cursada por los familiares de tres de los fusilados que supuestamente yacen en la misma fosa común que el poeta, cuyos descendientes, por contra, no son partidarios de la exhumación.

Se trata del maestro republicano Dióscoro Galindo -cuya exhumación no será finalmente atendida por la Junta al existir opiniones contrarias en el seno de la misma familia- y de los banderilleros Francisco Galadí y Joaquín Arcollas.

Según se ha conocido en los últimas semanas, junto a ellos también estarían enterrados el inspector municipal de tributos Fermín Roldán y el restaurador granadino Miguel Cobo Vilches, cuyas familias se han sumado a la petición de apertura de la fosa.

Homenaje al primer profesor gitano de la Universidad española

La Universidad de Granada (UGR) rendirá este jueves homenaje a José Heredia Maya, el primer profesor gitano universitario, a iniciativa de su Departamento de Literatura Española y de las Facultades de Filosofía y Letras y Ciencias de la Educación. Este acto, concebido como actividad académica, será el preámbulo de un gran homenaje que la institución académica y la sociedad granadinas otorgarán más adelante al profesor, escritor y dramaturgo.

El homenaje contrará con la intervención del vicerrector de Extensión Universitaria, Miguel Gómez Oliver, los decanos de la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras y de Ciencias de la Educación, María Elena Martín-Vivaldi Caballero y José Antonio Naranjo Rodríguez, respectivamente, así como los profesores Álvaro Salvador y Catalina González, en representación de las dos facultades a las que está ligado el profesor Heredia Maya.

Finalmente, intervendrá un antiguo alumno del homenajeado, el profesor Antonio Moreno. Y para cerrar el acto, los hijos de José Heredia recitarán algunos versos escritos por su padre y, por otra parte, se proyectarán en este homenaje los primeros minutos del documental de Camelamos Naquerar.

José Heredia Maya es poeta, dramaturgo y ensayista. Nace el 2 de enero de 1947 en Albuñuelas, un pueblo entre naranjos y pinos, el más alto del Valle de Lecrín, al sur de Granada. Su padre, José, es tratante de género, un vendedor que surte de telas a los pueblos vecinos y que, por su honradez y elegancia, es conocido en la comarca como el «gitano señorito». Su madre, Cándida, es célebre por su bondad, herencia de una familia cuyos miembros eran considerados en el pueblo por su compasión con los necesitados en aquellos años del hambre. En la integridad de su padre y el compromiso de su madre se hallan los cimientos sobre los que José va a construir su vida y su obra.

Desde muy pequeño, José sobresale en la escuela. De su época de escolar datan sus primeros poemas y escritos, testigos de una incipiente inquietud literaria que se convertiría en uno de los ejes de su vida.

Consciente del talento del muchacho, el cura del pueblo y profesor del colegio insiste a los padres para que hagan lo posible para que José continúe su formación académica en Granada. En la ciudad José estudia bachillerato, termina Magisterio y posteriormente se licencia en Filología Románica por la Universidad de Granada, institución en la que permanece como profesor. Es el primer profesor gitano de la Universidad Española.
Dignificación del flamenco

En 1972 se casa con Matilde Moreno y nace su primer hijo, José. Por entonces trae a la ciudad a las primeras figuras del flamenco, profundiza en la senda de la dignificación del flamenco como gran arte que ya iniciaran Machado, Lorca o Falla, y no deja de escribir. En 1974 nace Elías, su segundo hijo, y publica su primer libro de poemas, Penar ocono.

ÉSte encandila a la crítica y obtiene el reconocimiento de Vicente Aleixandre, de Blas de Otero, de José Hierro… Al mismo tiempo, en las convulsas postrimerías del franquismo, José toma partido y se constituye en pionero en la reivindicación de los derechos de los gitanos y firme valedor de la opción democrática en la confusa escena política que se vislumbraba.

En 1976 se estrena en el espacio escénico con Camelamos naquerar (Queremos hablar), un éxito sin precedentes, y marca un hito tanto artístico como social. En lo artístico Camelamos naquerar incorpora el flamenco a las nuevas corrientes de la dramaturgia europea abriendo nuevos espacios que la expresión flamenca sigue aprovechando hoy día. En lo social, se alza como un firme alegato contra cinco siglos de persecución contra los gitanos y se constituye en referente de un nuevo movimiento social en defensa de sus derechos.

La fuerza de su trabajo lo sitúa entre los intelectuales de referencia en la transición democrática y su nombre aparece en los titulares de los periódicos, la radio y la televisión. En 1983 publica Charol y estrena Macama jonda. Charol es un libro de poemas que profundiza en una voz propia, culta y popular, tierna y descarnada, y que es recibido con entusiasmo.

Macama Jonda es la primera fusión del flamenco con la tradición musical arábigo-andalusí e inaugura una línea de trabajo extraordinariamente fructífera que luego tantos han cultivado. A la postre, resultaría un trabajo adelantado a su tiempo (un denominador común en el resto de su obra). En él se narra el matrimonio de un andaluz y una marroquí, un cristiano y una musulmana, en un trabajo que anticipa lo que, 20 años después, se dará en llamar alianza de civilizaciones. También colabora como columnista en diarios como Diario 16 o Ideal.
Maestría como enseñante

En 1990 da un nuevo giro y aúna jazz, flamenco y tauromaquia en un espectáculo lleno de fuerza en el que la modernidad y lo telúrico se confrontan y se dan la mano: Sueño Terral exploraba entonces terrenos de la expresión escénica hoy comunes en los teatros de todo el mundo.

Entre tanto, José lleva adelante su labor académica. Como profesor de Literatura de la Universidad de Granada inicia a sus alumnos en el Siglo de Oro y en la Generación del 27, y es apreciado por ellos por su capacidad para transmitir la emoción poética de San Juan de la Cruz, Quevedo, Lorca o Vallejo, tanto como por su generosidad y maestría al introducirlos en los entresijos de la escritura literaria

Autor de numerosos poemarios, José no ceja, sin embargo, en su labor investigadora y como ensayista escribe sobre Cervantes, Lorca, el flamenco, Bartolomé de las Casas, Francisco de Vitoria, o el teatro del siglo XX. En 2001 funda la revista de pensamiento y cultura La mirada limpia. José Hierro, Antonio Tabucchi, Pablo García Baena, José Caballero Bonald, Antonio Enrique, María Izquierdo, Julio Iglesias de Ussel o Juan José Téllez son algunos de los amigos que lo acompañan en esta travesía. En el mismo año publica Literatura y Antropología, una depurada colección de ensayos que muestra a un José en animada charla con clásicos y modernos en busca de la mirada limpia.
