University students prefer sex with love

The most surprising –says Francisco Javier Jiménez Ríos, of the department of Pedagogy of the Universidad de Granada—is that «sex with love» has turned out to be the most grateful value both by the 1,200 persons who have answered the questionnaire in the Faculty of Education Sciences of Granada and the 61 who did so in Melilla as a contrast test. Likewise, the fact that provokes the most negative feeling is unwanted pregnancy, which coincides with all the studies we know.”

The main objective of this thesis –in line with a document of the World Health Organization, the Pan-American Health Organization and the World Association for Sexual Health of 2000: Promotion of sexual health— is to show future educators´ sensitiveness for sexual values in order to found a sexual pedagogy. The research work indicates the central role of sexual Education if the pedagogic ambit as well as its curricular importance in the education of future educators.

The research work has focused on sexual values and is aimed at future education professionals. According to the author, there are several reasons for this: the research work carried out by the group Emerging values and social education in the Faculty of Education Sciences of Granada highlights the incidence of affective values in the education of future professional teachers; the importance of sexuality is growing according to the surveys published in Young 99; there are numerous analyses on the sexual behaviours and attitudes of the young but there are few works focused on sexual values.

In accordance to the person in charge of the research work carried out at the Universidad de Granada, “Enrique Gervilla –supervisor of the research work– suggested this subject from a master of Sexology and Sexual Therapy that he had just finished. It is a European PhD. During this year I have studied several subjects at the Gregorian University of Rome and I have collaborated in different research works. But the most interesting experience has been a Meeting in Cuba, in a World Congress of Sexology, with Romano Forleo, who was the president of the World Sexual Health Association in the 80´s and is now a member of the central committee and chairs several organisms such as the Italian Bioethics Committee”.

In accordance with Francisco Javier Jiménez Ríos, “the most significant of this thesis is that it is focused on sexual values and not in conducts and attitudes. It is true that conducts and attitudes are related to values, but it is very difficult to find any literature that deals with values in a direct way. The study shows that the persons who are training to be educators at the Faculty of Granada are sensitive to sexual values, and on this sensitiveness it is possible to articulate an educational project to introduce transversal sexual education in the basic levels of teaching and in all the ambits”.
