According to the authors of this book, probability models, just like the suits we put in the wardrobe to wear them according to the occasion, are used depending on the available data for the problem we intend to solve; as these problems can be very different, it is advisable to have a wide range of models to use the most suitable one according to the problem. This is, in short, the content of the book the University of Granada has just published.
The book “Quantitative techniques II for economics and business management”, prepared by Professors Rafael Herrerías Pleguezuelo and Federico Palacios González, of the Department of Quantitative Methods for Economics and Business, has just been published by the University of Granada in the collection Manuals; it has been conceived as a guide to provide students with education and make the development of their analysis ability and decision-making easier for the students of Quantitative Techniques of the Faculty of Economic and Business Studies of Granada.
The book has seven chapters and 250 pages; according to the authors, it has been conceived “as a guide for the students of the subject ‘Quantitative Techniques II’ in the Faculty of Economic and Business Studies of Granada”, although it can also be useful for any other university as an introduction to statistical inference in the context of Social Sciences. It is also a manual where professionals will find a behaviour strategy for information analysis and compilation; correctly applied, he will get more accurate decisions and higher company profits.”
This book adapts to the program of the subject and has been preceded by a homonymous volume: “Quantitative Techniques I” allows the student to study the necessary rudiments to get into the theory of probability about continuous variable, essential to understand concepts about “Statistical Inference” and “Econometrics”, included in this book.
According to Professors Rafael Herrerías Pleguezuelo and Federico Palacios González, “they have emphasized the intuitive support of the underlying concepts in the formulation and basis of the inference principles studied. We have tried to present –they point out- the immediate application of each principle in the field of business and economics. However, we wanted to avoid writing a manual which just solves ideal practical assumptions as a recipe book in the interest of a supposed effectiveness.”
A notebook of Conceptual Maps and Forms has been included in the book “prepared to help the students to understand the logical approach of the subject”, as well as a Macro for the Excel spreadsheet which solves all the standard problems. It all is part of the project “New technologies in Techniques II teaching” financed by the Vice-Rectorate of Teaching Planning, Quality and Evaluation.
