Archivos de la Sociedad Española de Oftalmología is a monthly scientific publication with a great tradition between Spanish ophthalmologists. The idea of placing the journal in the hands of the group Science and scientific community assessment, supervised by the professor of the University of Granada Evaristo Jiménez Contreras, is to increase their prestige and their scientific impact in the international community. To this extent, they will analyse the papers published in the journal, considering the usual problems of scientific edition.
In this group of the Department of Librarianship and Documentation of the UGR, “we know well rules of the game”, points out professor Jiménez Contreras. For this reason, more than 200 scientific journals have gone through their “audits” in their more than 10 years of path as assessors of scientific communication. Among others, all the journals of the University Complutense, Salamanca and Granada itself, and many of the field of Medicine, the subject they are specialized in.
The idea of their last work is to improve the presentation of the journal Archivos, internal management and design to attract the most renowned scientific groups on national ophthalmology. The journal will have more possibilities of appearing in the databases where the best international journals appear, like Medline or Web of Science. This will increase its impact and attractiveness for the research community.
Among the developing works of this group, we can find the carrying out of a database for Spanish scientific journals, specialized in social sciences. There it will be possible to obtain the impact rates of these journals in specialities which have problems to join the so-called international science for reasons not related to the quality of the Spanish publication but to the aims of the research works, sometimes too local to be published in journals outside Spain.
