A UGR thesis analyses Wage Security Funds in Saving Banks

PhD Mariano Santos Francés´s doctoral thesis “Analysis of the Wage Security Fund in Saving Banks” intends to establish if the methodology used in the assessment of the deposits presents the same behaviour parameters in banks than in Saving Banks; the thesis, supervised by teachers of the University of Granada Rafael Herrerías Pleguezuelo, Salvador Rayo Cantón and José Callejón Céspedes, establishes that it would be advisable “introduce a new decrease model which reflects the true risk of the institution, either a bank or a saving bank, to estimate the bonus that each institution must contribute to its wage security fund”.

Thus, given that the financial security contract can be characterized as a sale option on the bank’s assets, the starting point of this study are the studies estimating certain fair security bonus for Spanish banks. However, this methodology would not be applicable for the study of such «fair bonus» when it is about the Saving Banks, as they are not quoted on the Stock Exchange.

The final goal presented in the report of the project of doctoral thesis was to design a common methodology to assess the individualized contributions to the Wage Security Funds. “This is possible –says Mariano Santos—in the chapter 5 of this memory, in which we present a regression model”.
