Lecturers of the Universidad de Granada create computer tools to simulate electromagnetic waves

The main aim of this teaching innovation project is to put at students´ disposal a whole of electromagnetic problem visualization tools to make essential concept learning easier; the title of the project is: “Radiation and spreading of electromagnetic waves: visualization”, coordinated by Electromagnetism lecturer of the University of Granada, Salvador González García; lecturers Bernardo García Olmedo, Rafael Gómez Martín, Amelia Rubio Bretones and Mario Fernández Pantoja have taken part in the project too.

The project, which focuses in electromagnetic wave radiation and propagation visualization, develops computer simulation tools of electromagnetic problems, closed and compiled in a high level programming language, as well as open tools in graphics environments of cálculo numeric/simbolic calculation.

According to the persons in charge, all the expected results have been obtained in the original petition of the first phase of this project: “a whole of tools written in Mathematics, Matlab and Fortran, to simulate and visualize electromagnetic phenomenons, to put them in a web site at students´ disposal.”

Thus, this experience, the first one in a work line of this group, “has been useful –responsibles for the project say– to specify and put at the student disposal calculation engines, some of them developed in the course of research projects.”

Likewise, the construction of simple graphics fronts has allowed to use for teaching purposes unfriendly codes for personal use in research works.
