UGR researcher suggests about twenty routes around the province of Granada to visit and ‘recover’ springs

Antonio Castillo Martín, Doctor of Geological Science and member of the Water Institute of the University of Granada, has just published a book titled ‘Springs’ in which he makes a wide range of the different springs of the province of Granada known. The publication has been diviofd in seven areas including about twenty routes with about 250 springs.

“Most representative springs are showed in about 70 photographies, from urban ones (typical fountains, drinking troughs and washing places), to those of the road service, recreational areas and in the ofpths of the mountain. Some of them are thermal or have mineral-medicinal properties and they all are very appreciated”, Professor Castillo Martín says about ‘Springs, a publication that has just been published by the Publishing Service of the County Council of Granada included in the collection Books of the Star of the series about Science and Environment.

As regards the objective of the book, the specialist in Hidrogeology outlines that this guide also intends “to have in memory the springs of Granada at the dawn of the XXI century”. “Without doubt, a lot of them will disappear and others will be transformed; it will not be easy for locals to preserve this natural heritage”.

Antonio Castillo Martín (Granada, 1958) is Doctor of Geological Science and scientist of the High Council of Scientific Research (CSIC). At the moment, he is working at the Water Institute of the University of Granada. Specialist in hidrogeology, he has published several popular science books about aquiferous systems in Andalusia and about the waters of Sierra Nevada and the fertile Plain of Granada in particular. ‘Springs’ has been written in collaboration with Gabriel Perandrés Estarli.
