Weblogs in the service of education in the UGR

Weblogs are more or less personal books published in the Internet, where an author sets his reflections in a fast, simple and cheap way. Nowadays, we are witnessing a true explosion of this new communication mean of complex networks. The weblog communication process takes on major importance with such important events as Iraq´s war, 11-M attacks in Madrid or the last Spanish election.

With regard to these emerging processes, the University of Granada has recently been the venue for a Conference on weblogs and media; its main promoter was Professor Juan Julián Merelo Guervós (Dpt. of Computer Architecture and Technology), a real pioneer in the context of University research on these new communication processes.

better known as “JJ” among webloggers, is a fervent promoter of this new communication mean; in fact, he carries out the training of his subject through a weblog (http://geneura.ugr.es/MT/DyEC/), where he develops new teaching methods. In addition, Professor Merelo manages his own weblog (http://atalaya.blogalia.com).

Weblogs
Anyone can publish a weblog and inform and give one´s opinion about any subject, only influenced by the time needed to prepare and publish the news in the Internet. For that reason there are more and more weblogs of journalists where one or several gather news, comments and different opinions which offer the professional a new and faster way to publish their works than if they did through any other media. However, if creating a weblog is easy and you just have to follow some simple instructions, it is difficult to keep it eventually and show believable information. That is the big problem, since the only way to ensure information reliability is to take into account users´opinion. It is up to them to decide what is true and what is not.
