A thematic portal in the Internet, specialized in electronic documents and their impact in information society from the perspective of document and file management systems, is the result of a Teaching Innovation Project, “Design and development of a digital platform to support teaching and research”, that has been approved by the Vice-Rectorate of Teaching Planning, Quality and Evaluation of the University of Granada. Librarianship and Documentation teachers take part in the project, coordinated by Professor Antonio Ángel Ruiz Rodríguez: Eduardo Peis Redondo, Mercedes de la Moneda Corrochano and David Gómez Domínguez, as well as Eugenio Aguirre Molina, from Computer Engineering, and Consuelo de las Mercedes Martín Vega, from the Record Office of the University.
According to the coordinator of the project, Antonio Ángel Ruiz Gutiérrez, “this portal is the basis for the development of a practice digital platform for the subjects of the Documentation Degree related to the course. Practice development benefits and gets support from a wide listing of informative resources related to the subject. As this portal is a great support for teaching and research and combines the two objectives of the University: The main objective is to become a national point of reference from the University of Granada.”
According to the coordinator of this Teaching Innovation Project, Antonio Ángel Ruiz Rodríguez, “in the last fifteen years, a lot of studies and projects from different fields have been carried out to clarify both conceptual and methodological aspects about electronic documents. It all has also reflected in the adaptation of some subjects of the diploma course and the degree in Librarianship and Documentation; we are refering especially to those subjects related to files and document management. Such subjects are the responsability of the members of this project. In this sense, the introduction of this kind of documents in the information world, especially in the field of documentary management systems, is a large challenge for society; therefore, education in these subjects is of special importance. It is important to know how to combine the possibilities and the advantages of electronic management with the security of its legal authenticity and validity”.
The international scientific community is advancing at a dizzy speed in the study of this subject (a clear proof is the DLM Forum – European Forum of the Machine-readable data). “For this reason- Prof. Ruiz says – a Portal specialized in electronic documents and their impactt in management systems would be an ideal platform to collect all the scientific advances in an organized way and to distribute them updated, as well as to develop a training on this subjects, related to the diploma course and the degree in Librarianship and Documentation.
The aim of this project is to compilate in a selective way all the scientific and informative resources about the subject in the Internet and group them by topic and category. In the same way, the portal is going to be used as teaching support, either by using the bibliographic material or by carrying out training in electronic files in collaboration with the Universities of Salamanca, Murcia, Complutense of Madrid and the Thecnical College of Valencia.
According to the coordinator, “the portal sets up as a practice plataform in the teaching of certain subjects of the Degree in Documentation. And, once consolidated, the offert will extend to foreign universities like, for example, the University of Texas at Austin, with which we already have a preliminary agreement”.
