In the last update of the scoring ascribed by Google to web pages, which took place at the end of October 2009, the web of the University of Granada (Spain) has obtained 9 points. This scoring, so-called «PageRank», measures the importance ascribed by Google to a web page and connected to its visibility in the Internet.
With this score, the web of the UGR achieved the same level of visibility as internationally renowned organizations such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), NASA, the universities of Harvard, Oxford and Cambridge or some social networks including Facebook and Flickr.
Only 4 in Spain
On a national basis, only four sites exceeded the 8 points, and one of them was the home page of the University of Granada (http://www.ugr.es), together with the journal El Mundo, the web page of the Complutense University of Madrid and the portal of Latin American universities “Universia”.
The “PageRank” is measured on a logarithmic scale ranged between 0 and 10. In the last one and a half years, the web of the UGR has improved from 7 to 9, which means in practice that its visibility has multiplied by 100. This amazing increase is mainly due to the effort carried out from the Web Office of the UGR, and joins in the quality escalation obtained in different indicators connected to the web, like those of accessibility. The UGR is the leading institution of the Spanish universities with regard to web accessibility with a coring of 9.4 points according to the tool eXaminator, which places it in the sixth position of its ranking, and complying with the highest level of conformance defined by the international standards (AAA or triple-A).
