- Valued at more than 2 million euros, the new laboratory is located at the Research Center for Information and Communication Technologies of the University of Granada (CITIC-UGR).
- The new facilities will be used for the study of electronic components that make up all electronic devices (cell phones, computers, smartphones, domestic electronics, medical equipment, etc. ..).
The University of Granada nanoelectronics group has just inaugurated a new nanoelectronics characterization laboratory valued at more than 2 million euros at the Center for Research in Information and Communication Technologies of the University of Granada (CITIC-UGR).
This laboratory is one of the most advanced in the world in the characterization of nanoelectronic devices, i.e. the study of electronic components that will make up new electronic devices in the future (cell phones, computers, smartphones, domestic electronics, medical equipment, etc. .. .)
At these facilities, the most advanced devices currently produced will be studied both at high and low frequency and at a wide range of temperatures (from -140ºF to 570ºF). The University of Granada group of nanotechnology has signed an agreement with the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan, the company SOITEC in France and the two most important technological centres in Europe in the field of nanotechnology: CEA-LETI in Grenoble (France) and IMEC in Leuven (Bélgica).
Under these agreements, the devices manufactured in these centers of excellence will be studied in the laboratory of the University of Granada. In addition, the nanoelectronics group of the UGR is currently in the process of signing another collaboration agreement with the Kyungpook National University (KNU) in Korea, for the supply of samples to be studied in this laboratory.
Samsung and Intel
«This agreement is very important because the KNU is the main reference point of Samsung, one of the most important electronics companies in the world, together with Intel»–, the research group’s coordinator Francisco Gámiz says.
The CITIC-UGR is a center that brings together University of Granada research groups to promote excellence in research, and produce a critical mass of researchers in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The objectives of the Center are increasing research opportunities of member groups by sharing resources, coordinating and enhancing synergies, with the ultimate aim of becoming a reference centre both at national and international level.
