The UGR republishes the book “Child folklore on Federico García Lorca’s work”, by Tadea Fuentes

In 231 pages, the book “Child folklore on Federico García Lorca’s work”, by the Professor of the University of Granada Tadea Fuentes, includes a wide study of child popular songs, at the time as reports more than ninety poems taken by the poet of Fuente Vaqueros from different song books, plays, chorus or popular dances.

Tadea Fuentes´s work now published in a new edition promoted and prepared by the Professor of the University of Granada Mari Luz Escribano Pueo, gives meaning to many of the interpretations re-prepared by Federico García Lorca in his poems, which are the result of the extraordinary sensitivity and ability of the poet to perceive the beating and the beauty of popular expressions, often expressed during the children’s games, in the squares and the streets of the cities.

Tadea Fuentes offers in this book a compilation of fragments of poems, children’s stories and songs incorporated and re-created by García Lorca on his work. Tadea Fuentes wrote in relation to the poet of Granada’s use of popular folklore: “Federico uses songs and children’s stories in a fragmentary but explicit way to identify them. We have tried to do such identification not just with our old and personal knowledge of child folklore in Andalusian towns, but also with songs and games still alive in oral tradition.”
