Oral surgical pathology, with a strong theoretical content in concepts and a suggestive presentation of the oral-dental structures, requires manual dexterity on diagnose and surgical treatment, and also knowledge and command of what, why and how carry out such practical skills. Student of Oral Surgery have at their disposal from the publication of “Basic techniques on oral surgery” a very valuable element for their training on the practical aspects of the subject according to Manuel Donado Rodríguez, Professor of Oral Surgical and Maxillofacial Pathology of the Universidad Complutense of Madrid and author of the prologue of this book.
Professors María de Nuria Romero Olid (ed.), Estrella Prados Sánchez, Candela Reyes Botella, M.ª Victoria Olmedo Gaya and Manuel Vallecillo Capilla are the persons in charge of this edition which has just been published by the University of Granada in the collection “Manuals”, of Health Sciences.
The volume, with 212 pages, is a guide of basic techniques on oral surgery and deals with the most interesting chapters of dental surgery, from the first contact with the patient, the preparation for the surgical operation, its different stages and the appropriate instruments, to the detailed description of the surgical proceedings for the image, anaesthesia techniques, locoregional, erupted or retained teeth extraction, periapical surgery and biopsy of hard and soft tissues.
According to Manuel Donado, “it is very didactic; simple and concrete, without unnecessary literature, but without omitting the necessary data, from the formulation of the objectives for every practice to the step-by-step development; with the adequate iconographic representation of the different techniques and the simulation by the student as a previous requirement for day-by-day routine”. A highly useful element for students´ professional practice.
