Seventy nine research works by national and international scholars in the field of languages for academic or specific purposes, or “specialised languages”, have been included in the volume published by the Universidad de Granada under the title “The new tendencies of the languages of speciality in an international and multicultural context”, and edited by the professors of the Department of English and German Studies of the Universidad de Granada, Inmaculada Sanz Sainz and Ángel Felices Lago.
The volume, with more than 900 pages, includes works relating to six large thematic areas: Rhetoric studies, Terminology and Lexicology, Translation, Application of Information and Communication Technologies, Language Didactics and Acquisition, Cognitive Linguistics and LSP. Renowned experts from more than 40 universities and other institutions of nine countries deal with these subjects.
According to the editors of this book, although the central point of this texts has been innovation in all the relevant aspects of didactics and theoretical-practical research of the modern languages applied to the academic and specific contexts, they deal specifically with “aspects like the new linguistic genres and the evolution of the old ones, the impact of cognitive semantics in the field of the languages of speciality, contrastive e intercultural pragmatics together with the growing tendencies of technical translation, terminology and lexicology.”
However, according to the persons in charge of the volume, the field which has evolved more quickly and, at the same time, the most prolific, without doubt, is the field of didactics and language acquisition, “as well as –in accordance with the authors- the applications of the new technologies to research and teaching”. For this reason, these fields of study have been largely represented in this volume.
The research works published in the volume “The new tendencies of the languages of speciality in an international and multicultural context”, have been collected on the initiative of the European Association of Languages for Specific Purposes (AELFE) to manage to get the opinion of experts in these subjects and bring together a significant sample on the state of play of this discipline.
According to the authors, every proposal has been reviewed by, at least, two members of a panel of specialized coordinators of AELFE to guarantee the usual criteria of adaptation and quality in scientific treatises”.
