The Professor of the Department of Nursing of the University of Granada, María José Aguilar Cordero, has just published “Mother’s Lactation”. Once again, the prestigious publishing house Elsievier Science, one of the major publishing houses specialized in world Health Sciences, has trusted again the work of this researcher.
In her previous work “A treatise on Child Nursing. Paediatric Care” she dealed with subjects connected with nursing care of children and family. The chapter devoted to the nutritional needs of the child was the starting point for the development of this new project.
All through the 621 pages of “Mother’s Lactation”, Dr Aguilar Cordero sets out the research works carried out on the questions affecting newborn babies’ feeding. The consists of 44 chapters, among which stands out that devoted to teenage mothers´ lactation, where she analyses the affective relations established between the mother and her child during such period and the importance of favouring this bond, avoiding possible battering and psychological alterations. Another interesting chapter is that identifying the differences found between growth patterns of children who have been bottle-fed and those who have received mother’s lactation, the possibility of child obesity and allergies. In chapter 42, the author tackles the subject of Re-lactation and Induced Lactation, through very simple treatments. And finally, certain research works show how mother’s lactation can prevent the sudden death syndrome.
The kangaroo mother method, operations connected with breast, endocrinal problems during pregnancy, lactation in HIV-carrier mothers, together to other subjects, complete multi-disciplinary work, that intends to answer the questions of health professionals, as well as mothers in their main role.
