Through short chats of less than 15 minutes to be released on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, researchers from UGR will explain their job and scientific topics related to modern issues.
The University of Granada (UGR), through the Scientific Culture Unit and the Office of Communication Management, has launched a new programme designed for sharing information related to science called “A ciencia cerca” (Science Up Close). The goal is to bring the research being conducted at the university to the general public.
Through videos of less than 15 minutes that will be shared on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, researchers from UGR will explain what their jobs consist of or some other topic related to modern science.
“It’s all about piquing the interest of the viewer with simple and accessible language, using a line of argument that the researchers will choose themselves depending on what they are presenting” explains the director of the Scientific Culture Unit at UGR, Ana Isabel García López.

The first recordings of “A Ciencia Cerca” will address scientific issues as varied as the role of women in prehistory, myths and realities related to exercise during pregnancy, new ways of reducing stress in children before an operation and art therapy.
For his part, Office of Communication Management director Jose Ángel Ibáñez Zapata encourages scientists at the university to participate in the new programme. The objective, he says, “is to bring science to the general public, making the most of the new opportunities that technology and the Internet have to offer.” The effort appears not to be in vain. “A Ciencia Cerca” collaborates with Centre for Virtual Teaching (CEVUG) at the University of Granada.
