Sustainable Development at the University of Granada

inglés – english

The University of Granada organised a course
on the quality of the environment and sustai-nable
development in universities. The guest
lecturers were Rectors, and university adminis-trators
and professors from all regions of
Spain; the course mainly addressed the tea-chers
and students of the host university. Its
purpose was to familiarise students in all disci-plines
and the other participants with the
themes discussed. The debates were very pro-ductive
because they enabled participants to
clarify the concepts and their meaning at both the local and the interna-tional
level.
This Course-Conference described the activities of the Spanish universities
in the fields of environmental sciences and sustainable development. The
University of Amsterdam, the HUMANE (Heads
of University Management and Administration
in Europe) group and the International
Association of Universities were invited to open
the debate on the global context in which the
Spanish initiatives are embedded. IAU detailed
the work carried out in the framework of GHESP
and seized the opportunity to present the
United Nations Decade for Sustainable
Development and the conclusions of the IAU
Conference on Education for a sustainable
future that was held in Prague, Czech Republic, last September
(see:www.unesco.org/iau/conference/prague/index.html#REPORTS)
and the debates devoted to the building of the Toolkit
(see: ww.ulsf.org/toolkit)
