The SCImago Journal & Country Rank has recently issued a report putting Iran’s scientific community in the first place in the region in its 2010 rankings, which represents a breakthrough for the country’s scientific establishment.

The report found that Iran has had the fastest rate of increase in scientific publications in the region, placing it ahead of Turkey, according to the Fars News Agency.

In the report, Iran was also named the 17th best country in the world in terms of scientific publications.

The top five universities in the rankings in 2010 and 2011 are the United States, China, Britain, Germany, and Japan.
