NHS harnesses new technology to link pathology systems

Laboratory equipment manufacturers have developed new software to connect hospitals’ pathology systems.

Having been adopted by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, iSoft’s Viaduct links pathology systems electronically, according to Laboratory Talk.

This means that information can be exchanged directly via the technology, while requests can also be made electronically.

By implementing the system, hospitals may find that mix ups and lost results are eliminated because it takes away the need for a paper and post process.

Leeds processes some three million pathology samples each year, while also carrying out various tests for York, the company highlights.

Recently, researchers from the University of Granada developed new laboratory products of their own in order to establish a way to effectively test night vision.

They created both the tool and the software needed to complete the process.

Dubbed the halometer, the tool assesses how patients’ eyes react to light-based stimuli.
