Neuropsychological phenomenon identified in healers

Research has shown that many of the individuals claiming to see the aura of people, traditionally called «healers» or «quacks», actually present the neuropsychological phenomenon which is known as «synesthesia», or specifically, «emotional synesthesia». People in Syracuse who are interested in natural health care interventions to help them achieve their optimal health potential are interested in the bottom line news on these healers in order to help them appropriately evaluate if they have anything of value to offer for their health care. A press release from the University of Granada states «Scientific Evidence Proves why Healers See the «Aura» of People.»

University of Granada researchers have affirmed that healers present synesthesia, which is a neuropsychological phenomenon involving a «mingling» of the senses. The results of this study have been published in the journal Consciousness and Cognition. The authors have remarked on the significant «placebo effect» that healers have on ill people. In the phenomenon of synesthetes, the brain regions responsible for the processing of each type of sensory stimuli are intensely interconnected. In this way, synesthetes can see or taste a sound, feel a taste, or associate people with a particular color.

The study was conducted by the University of Granada Department of Experimental Psychology researchers Óscar Iborra, Luis Pastor and Emilio Gómez Milán. This is the first time that a scientific explanation has been provided on the esoteric phenomenon of the aura, which is a supposed energy field of luminous radiation surrounding a person as a halo, which is imperceptible to most human beings. From a neurological perspective, synesthesia is due to cross-wiring in the brain of some people (synesthetes); and so synesthetes present more synaptic connections than «normal» people. Professor Gómez Milán has explained «These extra connections cause them to automatically establish associations between brain areas that are not normally interconnected.»

It appears many healers claiming to see the aura of people might have this condition. For this study, the researchers interviewed some synesthetes as the healer from Granada «Esteban Sánchez Casas», who is known as «El Santón de Baza». Many people have attributed «paranormal powers» to El Santón, such as his ability to see the aura of people «but, in fact, it is a clear case of synesthesia», the researchers have said. The capacities which El Santón has gives him the ability to make people feel understood, and provides him with special emotion and pain reading skills. This has lead the researchers to comment on the significant «placebo effect» that healers have on people. And, the researchers have said synesthesia is not an extrasensory power, but a subjective and adorned perception of reality. These insights into healers are fascinating and deserve further study.
