3D Imaging System & UAVs Used To Digitize Historic Buildings

Our historical buildings can now be digitized into 3D models without the need of any human intervention, thanks to the researchers from University of Granada. They have come up with a 3D imaging system that obtains image data from an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and creates realistic 3D models of these buildings. UAVs provide an added advantage because they can fly over unmaneuverable areas and are fast. The virtual reality technologies produce 3D images just like the ones we see in 3D movies.

It is clearly evident that with the use of UAVs we will get smallest of details accurately on the 3D models & will provide us higher precision than 3D scanners. The details are provided on the university’s official website.
