EU Domain Name Dispute, Resolved, in Precedent-Setting Decision

Prague, Czech Republic – (Cheap Web Hosting Directory) – November 8, 2006 – According to information released by ITechLaw, in the first case resolving disputed ownership of a .EU domain name, www.pst.eu, the Czech Arbitration Court found for defendant, PST Business Solutions B.V.

In a decision written by Court panelist Enrique J. Batalla. Since the April 18 decision, hundreds of other cases involving .EU domain name ownership disputes have been settled by the Czech Arbitration Court, underscoring the speed and efficiency of the Courts arbitration process.

Mr. Batalla, Vice president of the International Technology Law Association (ITechLaw), received an award today from the Chairman of the Czech Arbitration Court, Bohuslav Klein. The award was presented at the annual ITechLaw European Conference.

The Czech Arbitration Court was selected by the European Commission and the Belgium-based nonprofit European Registry of Internet Domain Names last April to handle .EU domain-name disputes. Arbitration is a faster and more flexible process than traditional court proceedings, allowing for quicker settlements and disposition of caseloads. The Courts rulings are valid in 130 countries.

Mr. Batalla commented, I am honored to receive this award and to contribute to an arbitration process that is bringing equity and efficiency to resolving disputes over ownership of .EU domain names.

A long-time member of ITechLaw, Mr. Batalla, 62, was named vice president of the 35-year-old global association earlier this year. He is senior partner in the Madrid law firm of Batalla Abogados, where he specializes in information technology law. A graduate of the University of Granada, he also studied in Washington, D.C. at the International Juridical Practices.
