Following the public announcements made by the President of the Spanish Government and the President of the Regional Government of Andalusia, and in light of the national state of alert declared by the Spanish Government, the Rector of the University of Granada has held an emergency virtual meeting with the UGR’s Monitoring and Coordinating Committee responsible for tracking the COVID-19 epidemic. As part of the effort to maximise the containment of outbreaks, it has been decided that all face-to-face, on-site activities of the University of Granada—both academic and administrative services—will be suspended with immediate effect, while public Higher Education services will continue to be guaranteed in alternative formats.
The Monitoring and Coordinating Committee, in close liaison with the UGR Senior Management Team, is currently working on an updated version of the Action Plan to ensure its adherence to the latest measures adopted by the national and regional Governments. The priority is to guarantee essential services, personal safety, the safety of all facilities, and the continued delivery of academic services via appropriate virtual channels and remote learning formats. This updating process for the Action Plan will be conducted throughout 15 March.
The Plan is being agreed and coordinated with the management of the other public universities in Andalusia, by means of constant contact between their respective Rectors. On 15 March they will be participating in a videoconference to agree on the most homogeneous approach possible to this situation, as a united response on the part of public Higher Education.
Once again, the University of Granada calls on all members of the university community to act responsibly and to scrupulously follow the instructions and recommendations issued by the Health Authorities. It urges everyone to stay safely at home, undertaking the necessary tasks that fall to them to perform and keeping up-to-date with the information published primarily via the official University of Granada website (www.ugr.es) but also via other complementary formats: official social network posts, email distribution lists, or other channels deemed necessary under the changing circumstances.
Thank you to all for your collaboration.
