The Ranking of Scientists in Spain is a listing of researchers (compiled by CSIC researchers), in which scholars belonging to Spanish research institutions are ranked by order of h-Index. The authors of the ranking extract the h-indices from Google Scholar Profile, which is a public profile listing the publications of each participating researcher, along with their impact (see https://www.webometrics.info/en/GoogleScholar/Spain).

The Vice-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer of the UGR, Enrique Herrera-Viedma, notes that the results of this ranking “are, once again, extraordinary for the UGR, and are not only due to human and scientific potential in various areas, but also to the willingness of UGR teaching staff to make their academic articles public and accessible via Google Profiles. We can say that the results of the UGR in this list of the 5,000 most-cited researchers in Spain reflect not only our scientific impact, but also our commitment to transparency”.

Dr Herrera-Viedma also points out that the results of the ranking “are no accident, as they derive from various measures implemented in recent years to improve the presence of our researchers in Google Scholar as well as in various social networks. We have made it our priority to ensure our publications are visible on the Internet and can be consulted without restriction”.
