Resumen en inglés:
«Entropy, neurons, and statistical physics»: In this short course, we will first present an introduction to the usefullness of information theory in data analyses in general and neuroscience in particular. Afterwards, we will sketch different types of estimations (under different assumptions) of the entropy of sequences of times corresponding to different events (of sequences of spike times, in the context of neuroscience). We will present, in particular, three approaches relying, respectively, on a Markovian approximation, on a perturbative expansion in the sequences interval length, and on the Maximum Entropy principle (Jaynes 1957). The connections with statistical physics (the Gaussian model, mean field theory, the cumulant expansion) will be emphasised.
