The geology of jade. Talk based on the chapter in the MAC Short Course volume on the Geology of Gem Deposits.  It will include aspects of archaeology and gemology.

17 March. 16.00-17.00 pm.

The nature of diamonds. Talk that presents the story of the exhibit and book by the same name.  Covers mineralogy, geology, history, exploration, gemology and technology.

17 March. 17.30-18.30 pm.. What makes gem? Talk that goes over the criteria of gem quality, plus the exceptions where one characteristic trumps the weaknesses, e.g., precious opal. Image examples include examples from the gem collection at the AMNH.
