We are looking for candidates for a 3-year PhD contract under the direction of Dr. Daniel Muñoz-Santiburcio at the Instituto Andaluz de Ciencias de la Tierra (IACT-CSIC), in Armilla (Granada, Spain). The thesis project will consist in the development of Machine Learning potentials for the simulation of different physical and chemical processes in water and water/mineral interfaces. This is a quite multidisciplinary research field, and the PhD student must possess or acquire skills in different areas such as chemistry, physics, programming, and statistics, among others. An essential part of the project will be carrying out stays abroad at one of the pioneering groups in the field of Machine Learning applied to the computational simulation of condensed matter.
The candidates must meet the following MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
• Holding a MASTER TITLE valid in the EU, or being able to obtain it in the following months, in Chemistry, Physics or any other scientific/technical field.
• AVAILABILITY FOR CARRYING OUT STAYS ABROAD for some months (within the EU).
• Commitment to finish the PhD thesis.
The skills that will be considered in the selection process, but are not necessarily mandatory, are:
• Background or studies on Theoretical and Computational Chemistry and related areas (e.g. Quantum Physics, Statistical Thermodynamics and Mechanics, etc.).
• Experience in Linux environments.
• Programming skills.
• Experience in data analysis and visualization.
• English proficiency.
• Skills in problem solving and ability for independent thinking, creativity, curiosity, motivation in the face of intellectual challenges.
