The University of Granada (UGR) has played a prominent role in the 2026 Spanish Universities Road Show in Brazil, a strategic initiative aimed at attracting talent and promoting the internationalization of the higher education system. The event was held between 25 and 29 April 2026.
Organised by the Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education (SEPIE), the event aimed to connect Spanish universities with Brazil’s significant higher education sector, which has nearly 10 million students.
The University of Granada delegation focused its activities in Brasília and Rio de Janeiro, seeking to showcase its academic programmes and establish institutional ties. The UGR was represented by Francisca Serrano, Director for Language Policy and Internationalization of Studies at the UGR’s Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization, and Silvia Bellón, a technical officer at the International Relations Office.
On Monday 27 April, the delegation participated in a session held at the Cervantes Institute in Brasília. The morning began with a breakfast meeting with the Spanish Ambassador to Brazil, where key aspects of academic relations between the two countries were discussed. This was followed by a networking seminar with seven Brazilian universities. In the afternoon, a talent recruitment fair provided information to students interested in undertaking academic mobilities to Spain.
On Wednesday 29 April, the event resumed at the Cervantes Institute in Rio de Janeiro. Here, the UGR continued its promotional efforts by holding six networking sessions with Brazilian universities, as well as a fair that welcomed over a hundred students. Among this audience, there was a high level of interest in international mobility and postgraduate studies in Spain.
Brazil is the world’s seventh most populous country and the largest in Ibero-America, and there’s growing interest in Spanish public universities due to their receptiveness and academic quality. Brazilian students seeking international opportunities in Spain typically express interest in official master’s degrees and fields such as business, engineering, health, and international relations.
By participating in the event, the University of Granada has strategically positioned itself within a key educational ecosystem, making the most of the sustained growth in enrolment of Brazilian students at Spanish universities in recent years.
